Maximising a small garden with good design and landscapers

Here I was presented with a really poorly laid out small garden in a new build home. The shed, placed by the house builder, was almost in the middle of the garden with lots of wasted space behind and so as to make the entire plot appear narrow and congested.

My proposal was to create a new base at the far end and tuck the shed away into the corner and relocate the bin storage cupboard against the back fence. This created a utility area right at the back and allowed room to design some useable space for my clients.

The small unit sizes of the the stone sets worked well in this small garden, creating a much more3 interesting surface than larger units would have done.

The clients wanted a shaded area to sit as the garden face South and is in full sun all day. So the pergola was incorporated along with the lattice panels, which also screen off the shed from view. Once the climbing plants get established up the trellis and onto the pergola they will act to provide some lovely dappled shade.

With the shed and bins moved out of the way , a new area of stone paving was built where there is now great access to the house and the side gate

The overall design theme of forty five degree angle has created some nice planting areas with plenty of depth for multi layer planting to provide a great display once matured.
The clients here are delighted with outcome and have invited us back to carry out further landscaping work at the front of the property.
