Just completed another design and proposal for a garden in Upper Cambourne, It must be fifteen years since I created the first of my gardens in Lower Cambourne.
Gardens in this area always suffer from a very heavy clay soil and more often than not, drainage problems. In this case the garden will be raised by 100mm and lots of organic material and sand will be incorporated into the soil to keep the surface from become too soggy.
If the garden suffered with puddles or flooding it would require some sort of drainage solution below ground such as a soakaway or diverting the excess moisture away from the affected areas.
On soils like this good pathways are essential if you need to get around the garden when it is wet, otherwise you will severely compact the clay soil under the lawn and make the problem even worse.
